Pond Restoration Initiative by Athena Global Logistics in association with ECO Society India:
Athena Global Logistics, in collaboration with ECO Society India, has undertaken a notable Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative – the restoration of a pond at TTNA School in Perungudi, Chennai. This endeavor not only aims to nurture nature but also fosters environmental education within the community.
The pond area, spanning approximately 1.5 acres, had been overrun by invasive prosopis juliflora and dense vegetation. Athena Global Logistics and ECO Society India joined forces to revive this urban biodiversity hotspot. The project commenced with the complete uprooting of invasive plant species surrounding the pond. Subsequent tasks included dewatering, desilting, and utilizing the extracted silt for strengthening the pond's bunds.
Furthermore, the organizations addressed the issue of indiscriminate waste disposal by conducting community outreach activities and door-to-door awareness campaigns. These efforts aimed to educate residents on the importance of preventing the discharge of grey water into the pond and controlling garbage dumping in the vicinity.
As part of the restoration process, the bund area has been transformed into a nature trail, adorned with rows of benches, providing a serene environment for visitors to relax and appreciate the rejuvenated ecosystem.
Through this remarkable CSR initiative, Athena Global Logistics and ECO Society India have demonstrated their commitment to preserving and enhancing urban biodiversity while fostering environmental consciousness among the local community.
